Just some news of the World Junior Championship. The Schenectady Chess Club’s own Deepak Aaron is playing in this event in Chennai (Madras to those stuck in the days of the Raj). Opening ceremonies were held yesterday, August 1st. The WC Anand spoke at the ceremony, and Deepak’s grandfather, Manual Aaron is in attendance as an honorary member of the organizing committee.
The first round was today. Deepak is seeded 65 in field of 124 with a rating of 2288. His opponent in the first round was GM Salgado Lopez, Ivan 2626 from Spain. A big hurtle to face right off the bat. Things ended as expected with the GM winning the game. Problems on the web site, so far, have prevented me getting a game score with more than the first three of four moves. The site promises a PGN download. When that will happen is a question without an answer as yet.
The only rest day scheduled is next Monday. If the downloads start working or the live games show up for the lower boards, we may have some games from Deepak to look at. I hope so.
More soon.
